very high cpu usage

Very High CPU usage

When I installed vista I'm getting crazy CPU usage of around 40% on a dual core 2.6ghz A64 w/ 2GB of ram
This seems really off, for sitting at the desktop doing nothing.
It's the explorer process that's using the CPU power.
Any idea's on the issue?

Where's the check box to turn that off?

Open Control Panel (set to Classic View) > Indexing Options > Advanced (I can't remember off the top of my head right now, but you should see an option there to uncheck it. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta "Joel Barsotti" wrote in message

Disable the Windows Search - this usually munches up a whole load of CPU :o)

Start, Run, type in services.msc and double click on the Windows Search service, then set to Disable, then Stop.

I've disable search and it looks like all my indexing is turned off and explorer is taking up like 90% cpu usage.
Any idea why the explorer process could take up so much cpu?

Try running ProcessExplorer from sysinternals.com (run it with admin proviledges), maybe you'll get more info
